Let Me Be Your Killer King

Everything had started out so perfectly. No guards, no guard dogs, nothing in his way but a heavy wooden door. But the little puca had been too preoccupied with being seen, and by the time he had reached his destination magical alarms had already alerted the palace of its intruder.

Aryll only made it a few steps out of the pantry, arms full with fruits and jams, before he was being grabbed and arrested. He winced as seely guards around him yelled, pulling him in every direction until somehow his arms were tied behind his back. When he tried to speak, to defend himself, a large hand only his him across his face; quickly assuring his silence.

A fae with bright, cold eyes cut through the churning sea of guards, far more decorated than the others. A cough was all it took for everyone to immediately stand at attention.

"What is this?"

"We found him stealing from the pantry, Captain. Tripped every alarm from here to the garden doors; but then the unseely aren't known for their intelligence."

"I resent tha-!" This time Aryll got a few words out, but again he was hit, and again he went quiet.

The captain just tsked, roughly grabbing the puca by the shoulder and yanking him forward. "Return to your positions. I will bring this creature to the king; you will all get your reward for this tonight."

And then the unseely was led deeper into the hornets' nest against his will, dreading what would happen when they reached the king. He'd never even been to the Unseely Court before!

Re: Let Me Be Your Killer King

King Farine sat atop his throne with a bored expression, fingers tapping idly on the arm of his chair. Next to him sat his wife and queen, Ilian, and beside her their first born son, Malik. Despite the cold demeanor they gave off, the seely royal family was incredibly beautiful, with light pink hair and silver eyes. Three of the other princes stood around, the youngest inconspicuously missing, all with matching expressions of apathy at the groveling dryad farmer before them, begging to keep his farm despite the amount of coin he owed to the already wealthy family.

"I do hate it when they cry," Farine sighed, waving his hand. "Get him out of my sight. If he goes back onto his land, kill him," he ordered the guard, and they nodded as they dragged him away. The king only perked up when he saw an unseely being dragged into the throne room, grinning a manic smile filled with sharp teeth. "Oh? What's this?"

"This creature was caught stealing from the kitchens, your highness." The captain smirked, shoving Aryll forward hard enough to send him to his knees before King Farine. "What should we do with the little beast?"

Aryll wanted to scream, to yell that wasn't some animal they were talking about, but his cheek still stung where slapped. That, and he had a feeling the seely king wouldn't be as merciful if he did speak.

"May I suggest making a servant of him? He would be easy to break and mold into whatever you wish."

"Hmm... I'm not fond of the unseely. I would rather have him killed than have to have him in my sight everyday. Darling, what do you think?" Farine turned to Ilian, who looked contemplative.

Before the queen could give her order of execution, Tarin stepped out from a doorway, having watched the proceedings. "Oh! I'll take him, father!" Tarin gushed, bringing his clasped hands to his chest. "I've wanted a toy like him!"

Farine paused before letting out a sigh. "Alright. As you wish, Tarin. He's yours, but you'll be the one to take his head if he steps a toe out of line."

"Yes, father," Tarin hummed, skipping up to the unseely. He was only an inch taller, smiling vacantly in a way that suggested there wasn't much going on upstairs, and he grabbed the puca by the back of the neck with surprising strength, leading him out of the throne room. "Come, come!"

"Hey, hey!! Not so rough!!" Aryll hissed below his breath, squirming in Tarin's grip. This ditzy prince didn't seem much better than his father; if anything, this kid would probably kill him by accident. Maybe if he wasn't dead by night he could sneak back out?

Tarin didn't react at all, pulling Aryll through hallways and corridors, humming an upbeat tune and waving to any of the court that passed by. "Jorel!" He called, opening a door to what looked like the slaves' quarters.

A tall orc with a missing eyes gestured them in, and Tarin finally let go of Aryll when the door was closed and locked. "What's this, little prince?" He asked, peering down at the fae with crossed arms. Tarin just beamed up at him.

"New servant! He needs clothes," he added, sitting down at the chair Jorel was just at, skimming over the book that the large man had been reading, though it was in orcish. "Please," he tacked on absentmindedly, frowning as he picked up a quill beside the book and started scribbling something down on the pages.

"Oi! Don't go crossing nothin' out now, I'm still reading that, you little bog snot." Jorel let out a sigh when Tarin ignored him, turning to Aryll and frowning. "Well, come on then. I'm sure I've got somethin' to fit ya."

"And what if I don't cooperate?" Aryll asked slowly, almost frozen to the spot even though Tarin had let him go. Nervously, he ruffled his wings, searching for a window that wasn't barred off.

"Calm yourself, little puca. Your tricks won't get you anywhere here but dead. Just go with Jorel and make this easy." An old, human woman spoke from where she watched on her bed, spending her precious little free time finger-knitting.

The little unseely just bared his teeth, frustrated and scared and really ready to start breaking out his nastier magic. "You don't know that! I'll escape, like I always do!!"

"Then by all means, go," Tarin said, not looking up from his book, though he did smile at the human. "My father will catch you, and I won't be able to stop him from severing your head from your body," he added, switching from ditzy to coldly unconcerned in seconds, his bright, vacant smile sliding off his face.

"Harsh, but true," Jorel said. "The King is a cruel man. The only reason he wouldn't order your death is if his guard killed you before you could stand trial."

"You lose your patience and run now, you'll lose your chance of ever escaping this place," Tarin said, finally closing the book and standing.

"Yeah, and why should I believe you? You're his son!" Aryll twitched at the sharp sound of the book closing, turning to face Tarin fully despite his instincts screaming at him to find some small, dark place to hide. He hated how the prince made a point, but the thought of being caught and executed was enough to subdue his temper for the time being.

"Because you have no one else to believe. You want to survive? You follow Tarin's plan." Again the old woman spoke, even reaching out to give his head a little whack. She had been here since she was a young woman; the closest she had ever been to freedom was following her prince. "Now go get dressed."

The unseely huffed, crossed his arms, but reluctantly stepped up to stand beside Jorel. "..My name is Aryll."

"Cara. See how easy it is to have manners?"

"Tarin. Now that we're all such good friends, go get dressed," the prince ordered. "Its more for your sake than anything; my father sees you still in your clothes, he'll make you parade around in the nude. And the Court is well known for their... savagery." It was likely that if any of the courtiers saw such a pretty unseely wandering around naked, Aryll wouldn't live through the night. "But you're unseely. I'm sure you've seen your fair share of savagery."
